From Classrooms to Job Sites: Summer 2024 Internship Highlights

Halff opened its doors to 80 students this summer, who participated in Halff’s internship program.

Nineteen of Halff’s offices were excited to host these bright minds, and create an unforgettable intern experience learning and working with Halff’s experienced professionals.

When looking back on his internship at Halff in Fort Worth, Cody Miller said:

“I’m so grateful for the opportunity I was given this summer by Halff and the Transportation team. This internship allowed me to learn so much about actual engineering work. From team building events to the intern social events, I really felt like I was a part of the team and company from the very start! I really enjoyed my experience this summer with everyone!”

Adventure Time for Interns

Richardson interns had the special opportunity to go out into the field and see Halff’s work in action during the Richardson Water Tank/Pump Storage site visit!

Halff summer 2024 interns at the Richardson, Texas, office gathered to see how work comes to life at this water storage site.

Interns also adventured out (or underground, at that!) into the Mill Creek Drainage Relief Tunnel — one of the largest projects Halff is working on. The massive Mill Creek/Peaks Branch/State-Thomas tunnel is currently under construction in Dallas.

Interns got a first-hand experience of the massive size of the Mill Creek Tunnel, which will provide much-needed drainage relief to facilities, homes, businesses and streets throughout downtown Dallas.

Austin interns biked through the University of Austin’s west campus and downtown area for a field visit of Halff’s Shoal-Nueces project. During the ride, they learned about a grate inlet that was 50% blocked and why it’s designed that way, a parking lot that has been removed and replaced with outdoor eating area, and the large tree in Nueces Street.

Biking the streets of downtown Austin, these interns learned about how this project aims to bring the storm drain system up to current criteria, as well as the importance of protecting local trees.

Fun Times, Too!

Each office held a painting with a twist night, where interns participated in-person with their office while following along virtually with the other office locations.

Interns took a well-deserved break from their work to attend team building events, from golfing to lunches and other social events!

…But that’s not all! Interns also got a special visit from Halff President and CEO Jessica Baker Daily, where they got to enjoy breakfast with her and the other office interns.

Acts of Kindness

Through many moments of work and play, there were also plenty acts of kindness interns had a chance to be a part of through Halff Community Initiative (HCI).

Volunteers packed snack packs for various nonprofits and participated in trash cleanups throughout the summer.

Interns were able to experience and participate in Halff’s culture of giving back to our local communities, and serving people first.
